Day 1: Yorktown, VA

Today we officially started the TransAm route. We biked east from Williamsburg to historic Yorktown. Victory Monument in Yorktown marks the beginning of the route.

This picture was taken on the beach in Yorktown using my phone just after we had the traditional wheel dipping ceremony where we dipped our back tires into the Atlantic. When I have access to a real computer (I am currently posting from my iPhone) I will be able to post more pictures that are on my camera.

Cool Chad! Ooch-put sun block on your head. You travel a little lighter than Sheridan with her 13 pairs of shoes going to the beach. Have a great trip. I'll be present in Oregon to watch you dip your front wheel in the Pacific. You're finally going to catch up with me - I've been from Atlantic to Pacific in same day (but that was in Panama). Dad

Chad! Man, I am very jealous of you right now. You are going to have a trip experience of a life time. Enjoy every pedal of the way. I will be watching your blog every day and praying for you man. Take care,

if you squint a little at the picture you look like lance armstrong...

but then, i guess that's true of any bald guy on a bike.

did rick shave his head? did you tell him it was too bad he couldn't get his head shaved by a rock star?

Chad,

Congratulations on dipping your rear wheel. Just getting to that point is a huge accomplishment. The first and most important step to achieving any goal is showing up.

You are going to have a blast and will return home in the best physical condition of your life. We are all pulling for you back at the office!

Chad your trip already sounds so exciting! I can't wait to hear more. I got soaked running across campus to my car today and i thought of how this will prob. happen to you along your route..but you will have a little more excitement along the way.

You know how mom & dad are riding 5
miles a day in "honor" of you..well i'm trying to convince dad he has to shave his head to fully honor you..
